Cabinet installation and refinishing are two separate processes, but they often go hand in hand when renovating or updating kitchen or bathroom cabinets. Here's an overview of YC Home's processes for each:
CABINET INSTALLATION
Planning and Design
We begin by assessing your needs and preferences for new cabinets considering storage requirements, layout, color, and overall design style. Depending on your specific project and budget, you may want to consult with a kitchen designer or use design software to create a functional and visually appealing cabinet layout.
Measurement and Ordering
Accurate measurements are crucial for a successful cabinet installation. YC Home measures the entire available space noting all encumbrances and irregularities. Once we have height, width and depth defined, we provide all our measurements to the cabinet supplier or manufacturer. This is when we can guide you in choosing the right cabinet sizes or may offer custom options to meet your needs.
Cabinet Selection
We will assist you in choosing cabinets that fit your desired style and functionality but you should also consider factors like material, door style, finish, hardware, and interior features. Common cabinet materials include solid wood, plywood, or medium-density fiberboard (MDF).
Professional Installation
YC Home only uses professional carpenters and cabinet installers. They are experts and will ensure the cabinets are level, securely anchored to the walls, and properly aligned. The installation process may also involve adding trim, toe kicks, and other finishing touches to complete the finished look.
CABINET REFINISHING
Assessment and Preparation
When considering cabinet refinishing we evaluate the condition of your existing cabinets to determine if they can be refinished. If we decide on refinished them we begin by cleaning all the surfaces thoroughly to remove grease, grime, and any existing finishes. We then repair any damaged areas or loose hinges.
Surface Preparation
It's important to prep the cabinet surfaces by sanding to a smooth and even base for refinishing process. We recommend starting with coarse-grit sandpaper (80-100) and gradually move to finer grits (220-400) for a polished finish. Then wipe away the sanding dust to ensure a clean surface for the finish to adhere onto.
Refinishing Options
There are different methods for refinishing cabinets, including painting, staining, or applying a new finish. Again, choose an option that aligns with your desired look and the condition of your cabinets. YC Home only uses high-quality paint or stain specifically designed for cabinets to ensure durability and a professional finish.
Application and Finishing
Every finish is a bit different and we recommend following the manufacturer's instructions for applying your chosen finish. We use the best applicators and brushed to apply even strokes and allow proper drying time between coats and finish with a protective topcoat to enhance durability and provide a polished look. You can reuse your existing hardware or upgrade for a complete transformation.
Remember, cabinet installation or refinishing are both complex processes, and it's recommended to hire professionals for the best results. Let YC Home guide you through your remodel to ensure proper measurements and installation techniques and help achieve the desired aesthetic and functional goals for your cabinets.
